A New Season

 

Union Symphony Youth Orchestra and Union Symphony Youth Orchestra Prelude are programs of Union Symphony Society, Inc. for music students of the greater Union County area of North Carolina interested in the study and performance of orchestral repertoire. Our mission is 1) To provide the youth of the greater Union County area a quality orchestral music education through the performance of classical music, 2) To educate the community as to the importance of artistic expression in today's youth and the appreciation of classical music's positive influence on culture and 3) To work in cooperation with the Union Symphony Orchestra to enrich the artistic future of Union County and its citizens.

Union Symphony Youth Orchestra begins a fourth season serving eighty plus music students in six counties of Greater Union County. Students will attend a three day orchestra camp which culminates in an opening season concert on Labor Day at Marvin Ridge High School. Students performed a winter concert on Sunday, March 16, also at Marvin Ridge High School. USYO performs a selection with Union Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at The Batte Center at Wingate University. The last concert of the season is a spring program at The Batte Center on April 14, 2013. Concerts are reserved seating and $12.00 admission.The upcoming performance of Union Youth Ballet & Orchestra is free Labor Day Concert Sunday, September 3 at 2p at Marvin Ridge High School is FREE ADMISSION and open to the public.

Union Symphony Youth Orchestra Prelude is a new string ensemble for students through Ninth Grade. USYO Prelude students will meet 3:30–5p following the same rehearsal schedule as USYO. They will also perform at all USYO Concerts. 

USCHAP

Union Symphony Youth Chamber Players The Allegro Strings meets on Tuesdays 4:30–5:45p at First Presbyterian Church 302 E. Windsor Street Monroe, NC 28110. Students of the Suzuki method of training may apply. We are now holding registration for the 2012–2013 Season.  Registration (PDF Download below) and a $25 membership fee are payable to Union Symphony Society, Inc. You can also submit your registration by mail to Union Symphony Society, Inc.  211 N. Main Street Ste C-1 • Monroe, NC 29112.

There will be several performance venues for USCHAP musicians including the Spring Art Walk as well as lobby performances preceding USO/USYO concerts.

Union Symphony Youth Chamber Players Vivace Strings (string ensemble), and USYO Brass Quintet are ensembles open to members of the Union Symphony Youth Orchestra interested in the performance of chamber music. These groups also rehearse separately and perform community venues such as the Union County Community Arts Council Breakfast For the Arts and the Union County Red Cross Rhapsody in Red Charity Ball. These groups will perform community events throughout the season.

Union Jazz

Union Jazz For Students and Adults is a new advanced ensemble for instruction and performance of improvisational jazz. This ensemble seeks players of traditional jazz instruments and includes members of USYO brass and percussion sections. Instructor Dennis Contreras along with David Basri work with this band. The Guild
Union Symphony Youth Orchestra Guild
is a program to provide leadership and cultural enrichment to our youth orchestra music students. The function of The Guild is to offer support and cultural enhancement to USYO and USCHAP. Meetings provide the opportunity for the exchange of ideas and planned activities. Guild members are able to attend cultural outings for live music in the community. Students may also participate in volunteer activities for Union Symphony events. Active members of The Guild may run for office and have opportunities to exercise leadership within the organization.
